Welcome to the Worthing and District Canine Society web site!
The Society was originally formed in 1948 with the Kennel Club granting the name of Worthing & DCS on the 18th June 1949 to replace the name of Southdown Canine Society. Its first show was held on the 12th November 1949 at the Drill Hall in Upper Brighton Road in Worthing, with prize money of 10 /- for First (50p for our younger viewers), 5 /- for 2nd and 3/- for 3rd.
During the first ten years of the club, shows were also held in the Worthing Rex Ballroom, Bognor Regis, The King Alfred in Hove, St Mary's Hall in Shoreham and The Warren School in Worthing. Some of the earliest Best In Show judges were A Nicholls, Mrs Jean Clarke, Mr Jack Griffiths, Mr Bill Siggers and Mr Tom Scott.
The society holds two open shows each year, one in February and the other in July, both at the Ardingly Showground.
